I can try and dig up a source if I still have the presentation saved. I should add that HSV1 doesn't often transfer from oral to genital, HSV2 doesn't often travel from genital to oral. In these cases the facial symptoms may not seem that bad but it is easier to transfer HSV2 from oral to genital. If you've had it since childhood (like I have), you probably has HSV-1. Also, more than 80% of the adult population has oral herpes, and most recent numbers suspect it could be 98% among adults.HSV-1 is the strain of virus that is typically associated w/ cold sores. Being HSV1 a common lifelong virus (as well as 2), most of us test positive to it, but still we all have a healthy sex life.If you have a communicable disease its important to disclose it to someone before you put them at risk for contracting it or not.Not doing so shows a lack of respect for the person and their health. As soon as you start to have the slightest inkling of getting one, though, you should avoid performing oral sex or kissing your partner on the mouth until it's entirely healed. Apply it as soon as you start to feel that "tingle" and it will even stave off the cold sore entirely. If you start to feel one coming on and take it, it won't come up.
I don't know how it happened, I may have contracted the virus from my dad (no, it was nothing like that, you creeps! It's less irritating than glandular fever (mono to you in US) or the flu, so people should be educated accordingly.Just because a large proportion of the population has it doesn't mean that those infected aren't concerned about contracting it.Yes, of course - non infected people are perfectly in the right to feel like that, doesn't mean we shouldn't break down stigmas, which is what I said. HSV1- (but very much probably without even knowing it): WTF?? HSV1- (but very much probably without even knowing it): And you are telling me this because..? I thought it'd be fair, so if you didnt feel like getting all hot and messy with me, or if you wanted to kiss through the window glass, I'd understand.I don't inform everyone though - only people I have sex with - fuck telling every single person I kiss I might, at some very small risk, give them a cold sore. HSV1- (but very much probably without even knowing it): You know what?

As was said above, the chances are relatively low but just as a matter of principle I like to practice very safe sex. However, Both Herpes Simplex 1 and 2 (cold sores and genital herpes) can be spread when there is NO outbreak or symptoms. I mean, I guess there's not much you can do about it, but I was just wondering what other people thought about it, because it's something that bothers me. However, this is what I was concerned about in my OP.
